Thin & Lite

HI-INDEX AND POLYCARBONATE LENSES

Hi-index lens material reduces lens thickness, making these lenses more comfortable and better looking by minimizing the size of visible lens edges for nearsighted wearers and reducing the magnified “bug eye” appearance associated with farsighted wearers. Essilor offers a variety of hi-index 1.67 and 1.74 lenses that are thinner and lighter than plastic—like select Eyezen™ lenses, which are available in hi-index materials.

Plastic vs. Hi-Index Lenses

LIGHTER, STRONGER, AND MORE DURABLE

Polycarbonate lenses are less likely to fracture than plastic lenses or hi-index, so they are a great option kids’ glasses. Essilor’s polycarbonate lenses are 20% thinner, 30% lighter, and 12x more impact resistant than standard plastic lenses. Anti-reflective treatments — such as Crizal Sapphire® 360° —can be added to Essilor’s polycarbonate lenses.

THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND THIN & LITE

Essilor of America, Inc. will once again transform the lens industry with the introduction of Thin & Lite 1.74 this summer. Available exclusively from Essilor, Thin & Lite 1.74 will be the thinnest and flattest high-index material available, making it a marquis lens choice for patients with high prescriptions.

Thin & Lite 1.74 lenses are offered in single vision. All lenses will be coated with Essilor’s award-winning Crizal Alizé and we offer this material in all our SV and progressives and can be combined with all our AR treatments. This anti-reflective treatment prevents dirt deposits on the lens and makes it easier to clean; improving aesthetics, as well as sharpness of vision and contrast sensitivity.

Power ranges for the product are: Thin & Lite 1.74 in Crizal Alizé, -20.00 to +8.00 up to a 4.00 cylinder and single vision, -18.00 to +10.00 up to a 4.00 cylinder.
