CHANGE YOUR LENSES, NOT YOUR LIFE

ARE PROGRESSIVE LENSES RIGHT FOR YOU?

Starting around age 40, your eyes gradually lose the ability to focus on nearby objects or you might have difficulty reading in dim light. This common eye condition is called presbyopia, and is a natural part of aging that will eventually affect you no matter how good your vision was when you were younger.

    PROGRESSIVE LENSES VS. BIFOCALS

Bifocal lenses only allow you to clearly see far away and up close. Objects at arm’s length will still appear blurry. Additionally, there is an abrupt change between the near and far viewing areas. Varilux progressive lenses provide sharp vision and smooth transitions at any distance.

REVEAL A BETTER RANGE OF VISION

    EXPERIENCE THE VARILUX LENS DIFFERENCE

Vision changes as you age, but it shouldn’t get in the way of how you live, work, and play. Unlike bifocals or ordinary progressive lenses, only Varilux progressive lenses help you achieve the most natural vision possible.

    TECHNOLOGY

THE MOST ADVANCED PROGRESSIVE LENS TECHNOLOGIES

Did you know we invented the very first progressive lenses in 1959? Since then, we've been constantly pushing the boundaries of innovation to bring you sharp, more natural vision with smooth transitions from near to far.

Varilux® progressive lenses appear clear throughout, unlike the distracting lines of a bifocal lens.

    W.A.V.E. TECHNOLOGY

All progressive lenses have tiny imperfections caused by the curvature of the lens surface, which can distort the way you see. But only Varilux progressive lenses feature W.A.V.E. Technology, which virtually removes those distortions. The result eliminates blurriness, providing superior sharp vision, even in dimly lit conditions.

    HOW W.A.V.E. TECHNOLOGY WORKS

    ADDITIONAL VARILUX INNOVATIONS

    EXTEND VISION WITHIN ARM’S REACH

Our Xtend™ Technology found in the Varilux® X Series™ lenses significantly extends vision within arm's reach so you no longer must move your head around to find your focus.

The Varilux X Series lenses use revolutionary Nanoptix™ Technology to virtually eliminate the off-balance feeling, so you can feel more confident on the go.

    GET CLEAR VISION

With SynchronEyes™, your eyes work better together, so you get clearer vision from left to right and top to bottom. SynchronEyes is included in Varilux® Physio® and the Varilux X Series lenses.

    FLEX OPTIM™ TECHNOLOGY

A tailor-made solution which stretches a wearer’s useful vision zone by up to 46%, granting the wearer the postural flexibility to see a given focal point from many angles. Flex Optim™ Technology is available exclusively in Varilux Comfort Maxlenses.

    DISCOVER LIVEOPTICS

Where other lenses rely solely on computer testing, you are at the heart of everything we do. Every Varilux progressive lens design undergoes a rigorous series of wearer trials and testing to ensure the best performance possible. This process is called LiveOptics, and it’s what sets Varilux lenses apart from the rest. Learn more about our research and development.

    FAQs

HOW DO I KNOW THAT I HAVE GENUINE VARILUX LENSES?

Varilux lenses are supplied from the manufacturing laboratory with a Varilux lenses Certificate of Authenticity (COA) card. If you do not receive a COA card with your Varilux lenses, please consult a Designer Eyes eyecare professional.

WHICH VARILUX LENSES ARE RIGHT FOR ME?

Each patient's prescription and lens needs should be evaluated in person with a Designer Eyes customer representative for appropriate lens recommendations and fittings to be made.

WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON MY VARILUX LENSES?

It is important to understand warranties available to you from a Designer Eyes customer representative. Before you purchase your lenses, be sure to ask us the specifics of warranty coverage.

WILL I BE LIMITED IN MY FRAME SELECTION?

No, Varilux lenses can fit virtually any frame size and shape. A Designer Eyes customer representative will assist you with selecting an appropriate frame for your prescription and fitting needs.

HOW CAN I OBTAIN MORE INFORMATION ABOUT VARILUX LENSES?

Our Designer Eyes customer representatives are an excellent source of information about Varilux lenses and their specific applications to your individual prescription and lifestyle. If you have not done so within the last year, Essilor recommends having a comprehensive eye exam prior to ordering your new Varilux lenses.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL GUIDELINES FOR TAKING CARE OF VARILUX LENSES?

The best way to clean your lenses is by first rinsing them under warm running water to remove any sandy/gritty debris, clean with a mild liquid dishwashing soap to remove facial oils, rinse with water, and then dry with a soft cotton cloth. Finish by polishing your lenses with a microfiber cleaning cloth. You can also use a cleaning cloth for touch-up cleaning throughout the day when it is not convenient to wash the lenses. And while your lenses usually incorporate a scratch-resistant coating, you should always store them in a case as a precaution. Avoid exposing your lenses to excessive heat and temperatures for long periods (like on your car's dashboard, for instance).

MY VISION FEELS DIFFERENT WITH MY NEW VARILUX LENSES WHEN I LOOK TO THE SIDE. IS THIS A NORMAL PART OF THE ADAPTATION PERIOD?

Yes. Progressive lenses will introduce some changes to your peripheral vision due to power changes that occur in the periphery of the lenses. You may feel an initial difference in your peripheral vision that may require some slight changes in horizontal head and eye movements. Sensitivity to this area of the lens will diminish as you become more accustomed to the lenses. Varilux® X Series™ lenses with Xtend™ Technology significantly reduce this head movement and feature Nanoptix™ Technology, which further reduces distortion.

    To adjust quickly and comfortably:

    • Start wearing your new glasses immediately.
    • Wear your new glasses continuously.
    • Wear glasses as close to your face as possible.
    • For most, this period of adaptation will only last a few hours. Some people may require several days or even two weeks before becoming completely comfortable. If you have been wearing your lenses for two weeks or longer and feel uncomfortable with your vision in any way, contact your eyecare professional for an evaluation.

ARE VARILUX LENSES AVAILABLE WITH NO-GLARE TREATMENT?

Yes, Crizal® No-Glare lens treatment is available on all Varilux lenses and is the best option for a No-Glare treatment for your Varilux lenses. Crizal No-Glare treatment reduces the glare that causes eye fatigue, helping you see, look, and feel better. Ask a Designer Eyes customer representative for Varilux lenses with Crizal No-Glare treatment.

DO VARILUX LENSES COME WITH SCRATCH RESISTANCE AND ULTRAVIOLET PROTECTION?

Yes, these options are available. Ask a Designer Eyes customer representative for Crizal No-Glare lens treatment, which offers scratch resistance and UV protection. Crizal No-Glare treatment is available on all Varilux lenses.

WHAT ARE PROGRESSIVE LENSES AND HOW DO THEY DIFFER FROM ORDINARY BIFOCALS?

Progressive lenses allow you to see all distances clearly in a continuous field of vision with no lines.

Bifocal lenses provide a distinct near and far viewing area, but no intermediate area (1-2 feet away). The different viewing areas are separated by noticeable lines that can be awkward, abrupt, and frustrating. The intermediate zone is the most important zone where so much life happens.

WHY ARE VARILUX LENSES BETTER THAN OTHER PROGRESSIVE LENSES?

Varilux lenses are backed by extensive, ground-breaking research, technology, and wearer testing. They offer natural, comfortable vision to anyone challenged by presbyopia. With over 400 million pairs sold, Varilux progressive lenses is the progressive lens brand most prescribed by eyecare professionals and trusted by millions of satisfied wearers.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR VARILUX PROGRESSIVE LENSES?

Anyone who has presbyopia, including current bifocal and trifocal wearers, people using over-the-counter readers, or people unhappy with their current progressive lenses.

WHAT IS PRESBYOPIA AND HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE IT?

Presbyopia is an unavoidable age-related process that begins to gradually affect vision, usually after age 40. If you experience any of the situations below, you may be presbyopic, and it’s time to consult an eyecare professional for a comprehensive eye exam:

      • You experience blurred vision when reading up close

      • You find yourself holding reading material at arm's length
      • You have trouble seeing in dim lighting, like reading a menu in a dark restaurant
    • You experience eye strain, tired eyes, or headaches
