Zach King gained fame from making "magic vines"—six-second videos that were edited to appear as if King was performing magic tricks. He started making similar YouTube videos in 2008, but really gained his popularity in 2013 due to Vine. He used his Youtube channel to make tutorials on how to use Final Cut Pro for visual effects and after gaining an audience, he began to sell training seminars on how to use this complicated software. In May 2013, YouTube named King as one of the 25 most promising young film-makers in America. Unlike many, he used Vine to create the closest thing to magic that you can get with a smartphone and his unique approach to this social media platform led to his immense popularity: 21.8 million Instagram followers and 179.6 thousand Twitter followers.
